Nekoosa Hosts Area Students

The Nekoosa Mill went “heavy metal” on April 27, when the mill hosted 40 freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from three area high schools to introduce them to manufacturing and the dynamic job opportunities available right at home. Domtar was one of four stops on the tour, which ended at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids with lunch and guest speakers.

Nekoosa Mill Manager Matt Fischer talked with students about the job opportunities at Nekoosa, and employees discussed the educational paths that they took (or are taking) to reach their career goals. Dave McElroy, a graduate of Nekoosa High School, is now Nekoosa’s maintenance and engineering manager.

“We will remain as a tour stop for the Heavy Metal Bus Tour because it is important for Domtar’s future in central Wisconsin,” Fischer said. “There are a lot of talented students in this area, and we need to get them excited about their careers, and then encourage them to stay in the area when they finish their education.”
