Engineers Support Students

Students from Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s Partner, Engage, Prepare (PEP) project partnered with engineers from area industries to compete in the National Engineers’ Week Engineering Olympics in February at Sci-Port, Louisiana’s Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. The PEP project works to encourage and engage students to ensure their successful transition to an institution of higher education.

Domtar’s Matt Long, Eric Schott, Aleeya Watson, Alyssa Blackson, Austin Vaughn and Brandon Ayers, along with several professionals from other companies, supported area high school students. The students and their engineer-partners competed in a design and problem-solving competition, mechanical engineering challenge, robotics challenge, aeronautical engineering challenge, structural challenge and electronics challenge.

“Our PEP students had a wonderful time participating in the events,” said Kimberly Bursey-Reece, project administrator for the PEP project at A&M-Texarkana. “We are extremely grateful for the support of the participating engineers and our local industries. Our students were so encouraged by their partner-engineers and excited about the various engineering career fields they explored throughout the day.”
