Domtar Wins Esprit de Corps Award

USA, South Carolina, Fort Mill, Thursday May 7, 2015

Domtar was recently awarded the Esprit de Corps award from the Anne Springs Close Greenway. The award is in recognition of outstanding volunteerism. Over the last two years, Domtar has hosted several group volunteer projects with the greenway:

  • Constructing 1/3 mile of new trail, helping to increase the safety for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding
  • Creating a natural landscape planter that helped block and re-route mountain bikers to a more safe trail access
  • Reconstructing and planting new gardens and landscape for the Lake Haigler entrance around the monument signs
  • Paper donation for new trail maps that significantly reduced the overall cost to the greenway

These projects would have taken greenway staff nearly a month to complete and were done in over two days with the help of more than 50 volunteers. Through the collective group projects, Domtar has contributed 264 volunteer hours, which is valued at more than $5800, based on the estimated average value of volunteer time per hour. In a conversation about corporate giving, CEO, John D. Williams said, “find a place where employees will invest their time, and that is where we will invest our contributions.”

Anne Springs Close Greenway is a 2100-acre preserve located in the heart of Fort Mill. It provides over 40 miles of hiking, biking and horse trails for the surrounding area. Domtar has made a long-term commitment to the greenway in support of their Get Close To Nature capital campaign. The greenway provides not only volunteer opportunities for Domtar employees, it also gives us a chance to enjoy this beautiful landscape by being within walking distance of the Fort Mill office.
