Earth Fair 2014

Eco-easy was the theme for this year’s Goodells County Park Earth Fair. The fair, held on April 25 and 26, was designed to educate the young and old alike about our eco-responsibilities. Several local schools bused their students to the event on Friday for a day-long field trip. It was estimated that 7,000 community residents attended this year’s event.

For the fourth year in a row, a group of Domtar employees, along with their families, volunteered to set up a free papermaking class for fair attendees. The participants learned how to make hand sheets and added their own flair by choosing to mix either glitter or wildflower seeds with their pulp. Hand sheets made with wildflower seeds could later be planted in the participant’s yard, growing into earth-friendly flowers.

Some 1,000 bags were filled with goodies and book marks for anyone who made a hand sheet. All of the items in the bags were made at a Domtar paper mill. The Port Huron Mill was proud to not only participate but assisted in sponsoring this awesome community event.
